SAFETY SAVES
You found the Safety Saves page because safety matters.
Safety Saves is a simple way to help everyone make safer decisions at work. Before you start a task, enter a work area, or when conditions change, take a moment to Stop, Think, and Make It Safe.
A few seconds of thinking can prevent a serious incident and help make sure everyone gets home safe.
When Should You Use Safety Saves?
Any time you're about to act. What are you doing right now? Pick one to start your check.
Safety starts with taking a moment before you act.
STOP.
Pause. Look Around. Don't Go On Autopilot.
Take a moment before you begin.
Slow down. Look around. Be aware of what's happening or will happen around you.
Take a breath and look around…
THINK.
Ask Yourself Four Simple Questions:
What Am I About To Do?
Know the task and what you're about to do.
Make It Safe.
If Something Isn't Right, Don't Move On.
Did you notice anything that isn't right?
✅ Only Continue When It Is Safe To Do So.
Stay alert. If conditions change, Stop and Think again.
If Something Isn't Right
-
1
Control It
Control access to the hazard so no one else is exposed, and inform your supervisor.
-
2
Report It
If you can't make it safe, stop and report it.
-
3
Fix It
If you can safely fix it, fix it, if you're properly trained.
The Whole Process
Every time you start a task, enter a work area, begin a job, or conditions change:
-
1
Stop.
Pause. Look around. Don't go on autopilot.
-
2
Think.
- What am I about to do?
- What could hurt me or someone else?
- What has changed or isn't right?
- What can I do to make it safe?
-
